Summer days in Limousin are generally warm and occasionally rather hot. Because the Limousin is on the edge of the Massif Central it gets just enough rain to keep the fields and forests lush and green.
2009 started with a cold spell of weather but by February temperatures in the afternoon sunshine were surprisingly pleasant. March was amazing with day after day of cloudless blue skies.
April saw a mixture of sunny, cool days interspersed with misty wet weather.
May was a lovely month with the temperatures soaring to 29 degrees on 23rd. After a couple of wet days peppered with thunder storms, the sun came out and the temperatures dropped to a more comfortable level.
Summer 2009 was fantastic! June, July and August were sunny and warm. Unlike the previous two Summers, most evenings were pleasantly warm until 11pm or later. The good weather continued into September when temperatures reached 24 degrees.
Winter arrived with a vengeance in December with a fair amount of snow and bitterly cold. On several occasions the daytime temperature didn't manage to rise above minus 5 degrees. The freezing weather continued through February and into March.
April this year was glorious but, as in the UK, the first couple of weeks of May turned very cold. The second two weeks have been much warmer with temperatures reaching 29 degrees. This week we've had some thunder and lightening with heavy showers - not such a bad thing as the garden badly needed some water.
